There's a tension in many movements with losing nuance and context in order to keep the movement growing and relevant. For me I'd rather if the movement to defund the police morphed into a movement to increase police accountability to reduce or eliminate abuse, bias, and corruption, but that might not get as much publicity or get people fired up to work for the cause, It's also by its nature reactive and contextual, as opposed to defund the police, which offers a universal and context-free solution and an action plan that is built into the slogan. That said, I'd encourage you to keep working to make things better even if there will always be annoying people and simplistic answers or compromises to be made to get things done.
